5 Tips for Creating A Memorable Sports Trophy

Your sports event is unique, so you must create a trophy that celebrates the achievement of winning. But all too often, sports trophies follow the same old tired formula of an engraved plaque or gold plated cup.

But with the range of materials and processes available today, your sports trophy can be as unique as your event. So here are five tips for creating a memorable sports trophy for your tournament.

Make It Unique

When coming up with trophy ideas, focus on what makes your event unique. Sports themselves are not unique, it is the combination of the location and the sport that makes your event special.

So think about what makes the location unique and then combine this with the sport. For example, a football match held in a former industrial area could depict a metalworker forging a football from steel.

Think Outside The Box

There are several techniques you can use to come up with original ideas, but one of the most effective is to brainstorm in a group. So sit down with pen and paper and start jotting down ideas.

The more ideas the better and remember there is no such thing as a bad idea. Some of the best inventions in history came from one silly idea. So put your creative hat on and start brainstorming together.

Put A Surprise Inside

If your trophy is a cup of some sort, why not make it extra special by hiding a little something inside? This could be chocolate, a small bottle of whiskey or even a gift card from a sponsor.

You don’t have to spend a fortune, just think of something that the recipient will appreciate. That way, you’ll make the celebration that little bit extra special and memorable.

Add A Quote

Traditional trophies usually have a Latin phrase on them like ‘Carpe Diem’ (Seize the day) or ‘Non-quis, sed quid’ (Not what, but who).

Why not switch things up by adding a famous quotation from someone recognised in the sport. For example, “Don’t count the days, make the day’s count” is a quote by Muhammad Ali and would look great on a boxing trophy.

Make it Colourful

All too often trophies are left gold or silver. There is nothing wrong with that – these are both beautiful colours. But with the range of materials and manufacturing techniques available today, nothing is stopping you from creating something unique.

Colour is one of the easiest ways of making your trophy stand out. You could choose a colour which represents your college or university. Or pick out colours from the state flag. Or you could come up with your own scheme. The only limit is your imagination.

Follow these five tips and you should be able to create a beautiful unique trophy that the recipient will be proud to show off to family and friends. If you would like help designing a unique trophy for your event, get in touch today and together we’ll help you create something memorable.
